Vendors

Join us with your farm-based products, garden plants, handmade crafts, and delicious foods.  The Owen County Farmers’ Market is based on vendors within a 100-mile radius of the Market. We desire to increase interest in local foods and artisans, but we need you to be a part of the market and show us all the great items available. We are excited about the market season, but it requires great vendors to make it successful. We want you to join us in expanding our vendor base with more produce and value-added vendors.

FARM VENDORS

Qualifying vendors must grow or produce their own product (no reselling or co-packers). Unprocessed Farm Products are farm products that are not processed beyond harvesting, cleaning, drying, and packaging. These products include whole, uncut fruits and vegetables, herbs, nuts, cut flowers, seeds, whole grains, cultured mushrooms, wild-collected mushrooms,* eggs,** and non-food animal products and plant material. Related farms, fields, and greenhouses must be located within 100 miles of Owen County, Indiana.

HOME-BASED FOOD VENDORS

Home-Based Vendor Foods must (according to the state) be prepared at the vendor’s residence, cannot be potentially hazardous (meaning they do not need refrigeration), and they can not be sold for resale.

Home-based vendors are allowed to sell non-potentially hazardous foods. Non-potentially hazardous foods are those that do not require refrigeration for food safety. Allowable foods include:

  • Baked items such as cookies, cupcakes, cake pops, bread, and muffins
  • Candy and confections such as chocolates, nougats, caramels, chocolate-covered nuts
  • Tree nuts, legumes
  • Pickles processed in a traditional method (e.g. fermentation)
  • Honey, molasses, sorghum, maple syrup
  • Mushrooms grown as a product of agriculture (it is highly encouraged that those selling wild
mushrooms be licensed by a mushroom identification expert)
  • Traditional jams, jellies, and preserves are made from high-acid fruits using full-sugar recipes. (This is the only home-canned food allowed.).

Home-based Vendor Information can be found through the link at the footer of this page.

VALUE-ADDED AND PREPARED FOOD VENDOR

Value-Added Food products are made in a licensed/inspected kitchen or facility. i.e. frozen meats, cheese, salsas, wine, etc.

Prepared Food products are foods prepared and served direct to consumer for immediate consumption. i.e; pizza, sandwiches, hamburgers, hotdogs, tamales, soup, etc.

Additional licensing and permitting required. It is the responsibility of the vendor to know of and ensure they have all required State licenses.

ARTISAN/CRAFT VENDOR

Artisans and craftspersons’ work must be original art or applied crafts of high-quality workmanship, handmade by the vendor. We do not allow the sale of antiques, flea market items, or mass-produced items.

SPECIAL SERVICES/MISCELLANEOUS PRODUCTS VENDOR

A Special Services/Miscellaneous Vendor is a vendor that provides services or products that do not fall into the previous vendor categories. Examples of Special Services/Miscellaneous products can include massage therapists, face painters, knife/scissor sharpeners, natural plant fertilizers, etc. Special Services/Miscellaneous Vendors are responsible for know all rules and regulations related to the services or products that plan to sell.

YOUTH LEMONADE STAND

To encourage entrepreneurship in our local youth, we allow one lemonade stand per week at the Farmers Market.

In the spirit of actual business ownership, the stand can be reserved for $0.50 (due on the day of the event). The child or youth group (12 years and younger) has to make, market, and sell their drinks at the stand from 8:30am to 12:00pm on Saturdays.

The market will provide a canopy and a table. Youth are responsible for their booth to truly experience creating a farm stand. If desired, they can provide an additional table, chair, signage, or stand décor. This stand is for selling drinks only (no food or craft items). Drinks can be homemade or a mix.

This is great for fundraising or helping youth with money management skills. Sign up your child or youth group today!
